Bishop
Isaiah Mbuga
Bishop Isaiah’s
salvation story started in 1982 while attending Gayaza Primary school.
Initially, he had been introduced to the faith by his grandmother the late
Tamali Njovu Lubega at the age of ten. His grandmother had a background of the
religion called “the Bazukufu” (the re-awakened ones) to which she
converted her grandson. The Bazukukufu is a Christian movement which believes
that the church was sleeping but their role was to awake her. However for a
long time, Isaiah could not find young people who were enthusiastic about
religion. Another reason which drove him to resolve to recede to nominal
Christianity was lack of serious follow up on him.
One evening, as Isaiah
was alone besides his bed in the school hostel, he gave his life to Jesus.
Unfortunately in
August 1989, his father died. Life became hard for Isaiah but his commitment to
God continued. Isaiah felt disappointed having believed and done all in his
power to ensure that his dad lives. To drown his pain, he stayed at church
longer.
Filled
by the Holy Spirit
Isaiah later joined leadership in
the fellowship through which he had come to know the Lord. He also started a
life of constantly praying and fasting. He therefore devoted his life to loving
God and serving him. He even made up his mind to always come early before the
fellowship began. When he was elected the school’s library prefect, he
interpreted it as an opportunity to preach the gospel. He had many chances of
standing before the school during assembly to declare the Lordship of Jesus
Christ. However, one of his biggest prayer requests to God was to be filled
with the Holy Spirit. He had prayed and fasted, for three years, but he did not
seem to get there.
One day, a Canadian minister Roy
Daman visited their Church. Roy called out to the front whoever wanted to be
filled with the Holy Spirit. This was what Isaiah had always longed for. It
seemed that he was about to get an answer to his prayer and he stepped to the
front where the preacher was. He was laid hands on but what surprised him was
that he regained his senses at the end of the service. He didn’t even know how
he had fallen down. He could not stop bubbling however much he tried and he
really felt new and very light.
Birth
of the schools’ ministry
In the 1990s, Isaiah continued to
do schools’ ministry. Between 1988 and 1999, he visited almost every school in
Uganda especially those which had a boarding section. Sometimes he would visit
three schools on one day; one at 8 am, another at 11 am and at 3 pm or 4 pm.
Isaiah loved schools’ ministry and it was his passion. They hit the road and
great things were happening. Young people were getting saved from time to time.
One day they went to a Catholic school in Namagunga. The students were so
hungry for God that there was a great revival that hit the school. That day the
Catholic nun, who also doubled as the school head stopped the meeting and
ordered everyone out, and on top of that called the police. A week later,
thirteen girls, including students of senior government officials were
suspended for holding a prayer meeting. The impact was so great that he was
told later that many others got saved.
The move to Mukono
In May 2007, they felt
a greater need to move to Mukono, to provide spiritual leadership to some university
students, and also given the much investment they had put in the area. On June
3rd, 2007, church started. At that time, there was a lot of human
and child sacrifice taking place there.
There was a lot of
spiritual opposition by witchdoctors towards churches, murdering of pastors and
burning churches and long with much sorcery. By the grace of God, they managed
to establish a discipleship training program for university students and a
church.
In 2015 he was
consecrated Bishop of the Christ’s Heart Ministries International. As a result
one of his main roles is now to provide cover and counsel to a growing number
of young and upcoming pastors across the region.
